The receiver was easy to install. The on screen setup was great. I'm not quite finished with the speakers but I'm sure there won't be a problem. |

I just hooked this up to a set or Energy RC Micro speakers and I am amazed. Of course, the speakers are not the best money can buy but they are very nice and fill our family room with precise sound, not just noise. I am a person who judges my audio equipment not by how loud I can crank it before I hear distortion but by how much realism comes through at lower volumes. I feel that a good system should make me bvelieve that a person is sitting in the room with me when I hear dialogue and that I should be able to hear this at ambient volume settings. Not only does this receiver deliver but what amazed me last night was how it handles dialogue and music seamlessly. Do you know how you normally have to watch a movie with the remote in your hands because you need to increase the volume when people are talking and decrease it when the helocopter is landing or when the orchestration builds at the end of a dramatic scene? Well, I was watching a movie last night with the volume just loud enough to clearly hear the dialogue. When the camera pulled back to reveal the stunning landscape and the music also came up, it didn't get loud, the sound just flowed out from the front speaker, to the right and left speakers and then back to the rear speakers. It did not roar, it flowed out of the speakers and enveloped us, just as the sound director wanted it to. On my old Sony HTIB that I replaced, the music just got loud. Evem my wife, who thinks all of this stereo stuff is a waste of time and money noticed this and actualy looked over at me, which is as close as she will ever come to saying that this was a good decision. Clearly, the digital signal processing that can handle sophisticated sound on Blue ray disks these days is easily and beautifully handled by this unit. Of course, it is also nice that it is real HDMI, meaning the unit processes the video and audio signal through the HDMI cable. I mean, really, what's the point of HDMI if it's pass through with no audio? Isn't the point to be able to plug one cable from your Blue Ray or ROKU player that gives you the beautiful audio and video easily? I laugh at the people who say that they don't mind plugging in the HDMI cable and their optical audio cable or component video cables so the sound from the unit can be heard through the speakers. Why the devil would you want to deal with that ?!? This unit has real HDMI that carries audio and video in the same cable. If you have a few hundred to spend on a nice receiver that delivers 5.1 surround, this is an excellent choice.By pairing it with the very nice Energy speakers, I now have a quite nice 5.1 system for less than $700. Oh, and yes, unlike so many other reviewers here, I actually bought this for real. |

perfect |
I wanted some nice basic surround sound using HDMI. With this receiver you CAN send your HDMI into the unit and play the sound out the receiver while the video continues to the TV. Perfect.
I have NO issues with any humming or buzzing or HDMI problems. I have a gateway PC, PS3 and Scientific Atlanta comcast box and i can easily switch back and forth all day long.
Worth exactly what I paid for it. Very satisfied. |
