Mychildrensstore.com Product Description |
| In the past, replacing scratched, clouded or yellowed plastic headlight covers was an expensive necessity in order to preserve safety. But now with the 3M Headlight Lens Restoration System, car and motorcycle owners can shine and restore plastic lenses — including headlights, tail lights, fog and directional lights — to like-new condition for a fraction of the cost. This kit includes everything needed to restore two headlight lenses, excluding the user-supplied household drill (1200-1600 rpm), automotive tape, clean cloth, and spray bottle. Restore clouded plastic headlights to crystal clarity. View larger. | Plastic headlight repair in 3 steps. View larger. | 2-step sanding process. View larger. | Buff and polish. View larger. | And see clearly again. View larger. | Clouded Plastic Headlights Plastic surfaces are great for giving vehicles lightweight, durable components – from plastic headlight lenses to motorcycle windshields, plastic tail lights, trailers and more. But these plastic components can yellow and haze with weather, sun and sand, limiting visibility and diminishing the appearance and value of the vehicle. While the impact on a vehicle's value varies, the dangers in terms of limited visibility are clear: It is a factor in 2.8 million accidents, 23,000 fatal crashes and 2,300 pedestrian deaths each year, according to the Motor Vehicle Lighting Council. Dim headlight bulbs and hazy plastic headlight lenses or surfaces may lead to this reduced visibility, putting you, your passengers and other cars at risk. The AAIA Car Care Council found that 26 percent of the cars it inspected had issues with their lighting system. Millions of cars on the road today have plastic headlight lenses. The problem increases with the age of the lens, and with the average age of cars on the road about 10 years old, the problem is growing. Yet there is something you can do about it. The Do-It-Yourself Solution The 3M Headlight Lens Restoration System is designed to give do-it-yourselfers an easy and affordable way to repair their vehicle's plastic lens surfaces. Containing various graded sanding pads, pad holders, buffing pads, polish and detailed instructions, it includes everything users need to turn their household drill into a low cost solution to this dangerous automotive problem. The Lens Renewal Kit can also be used to repair hazing on other plastic surfaces, including taillights, emergency light bars, plastic motorcycle lights, trailers, snowmobiles and more. Compared to having headlight lenses commercially repaired for approximately $75-$150 or replaced for up to $1,500, the 3M Headlight Lens Restoration System costs a fraction of that price, and the entire process takes under an hour, depending on the extent of the damage. How Does it Work? The steps for using the 3M Headlight Lens Restoration System are as easy as 1-2-3. First, sand the hazed surface in a two-stage wet sanding process with the enclosed sanding pads until the surface is smooth and the dulled layer is removed. Then polish with the 3M plastic polish, and buff with the buffing pad to the level of clarity desired in the plastic. In addition to a standard household drill mentioned (1200-1600 rpm) used in the buffing process, you will also need 3M Automotive Masking Tape to protect the body panels of your car surrounding the work area, and a spray bottle and water used in the wet sanding process. Otherwise, everything that you need is included in the kit. Features: - 3M abrasive technology and a polishing compound to restore hazy and dull headlight lenses, as well as other plastic lens surfaces on your vehicle.
- System is intended to restore two headlight lenses.
- Utilizes the muscle power of a common household (1200-1600 rpm) drill to do all the necessary sanding and buffing.
- This inexpensive kit saves hundreds of dollars and restores crucial night time visibility by restoring your own lenses.
- Easy, 3-step process requires as little as an hour to remove scratches and restore cloudy, dull lenses.

WOW, it works great! Lenses look brand new! |
|
I have a 98 Dodge Durango and I am amazed how well this product worked for my application. I have big, rectangle headlights that are fairly flat. They were completely hazed over and I couldn't even see the bulb through the lens. This was the first time I've used this product. After reading the directions, using the proper speed drill, and following the steps I ended up with headlights that look brand new! I spent about 1/2 hour on each lens and took my time. The key is not to rush. There's enough supplies to clean two headlights (and a few more) if you don't wear out the discs too quickly. Be sure to wear a mask as the cleaning process is dusty and the polishing paste can splatter. I definitely recommend this product! |

Great, just take the time to do it right!! |
If you follow the instructions it will work great, don't follow the instructions and you'll probably blame the product and give it a low star rating. Most people rate this product highly, if you don't it's likely to be your fault.
On my old Subaru one headlight was very yellow and it didn't restore it to clear. The yellow was all through the lens so I didn't expect it would. It did improve it a lot. The other was fogged badly. I had just bought extra spotlights because it has become too dangerous driving in the mountains at night, I could hardly see the road. I polished them with this kit about 5 months ago, and still haven't needed to fit the extra lamps. Very impressed.
Yes it took a while, yes you have to be careful and a bit handy but the time and effort is worth it. I was very happy with the results. |

Way better than expected |
I had read overall good reviews about this product (thanks everyone who wrote a review) and took the plunge. I have an 03 Tundra whose headlights were very yellow and beat up. I was afraid I was going to have to spend a lot of money to get them replaced.
I really took my time doing this b/c I only wanted to do it once and have it come out as good as possible. It took me about 1hr per headlight, but I used up every sanding pad it came with and probably did 10 passes per pad on each headlight. The instructions say that if you make extra passes the next step will be easier.
I used a cordless drill, but I have a very high speed battery charger so I ended up swapping out batteries about every 15min or so. It worked well for me.
In the end the headlights came out AMAZING. I was truly surprised. It looked so good after the first headlight I ran and grabbed my wife and told her to take a look and she was amazed as well (it takes a lot to get that reaction from her about anything on a vehicle!). 2nd lamp came out just as well.
I would highly recommend people try this product out before paying someone to do it or paying to replace the lamps. Very much worth the price and effort. I enjoyed doing it and seeing the results just made it that much more worth it.
Do make sure you have a water spray bottle before you begin and some type of mouth cover as it can get a little dusty. I used a bandanna and it worked fine. |

After research and review from the other people, I give it a try. I use it on my 2001 Audi. Notting to lose, the right lens was doll and crapy looking compare to the left side which is still look new.I have try different brand but only a day it would go back to the same look, I try looking for it locally and not much luck, so I ordered on amazon, the shipping was too long, but the finish was amazing. It been over a month now and it still look great, I which I took a before and after picture, but trust me it really work great! |
